Jeffrey Melvin Hutchins is a
man of many talents who has squandered most of them. He has lived since 1948
against all odds, thanks primarily to the good sense of Diane, his wife
since 1971, and his daughters Rachel and Nell. A list of Jeff’s
accomplishments suggests he has been successful, yet we all know he
could have done so much more.
Born in The Bronx, he was raised (as a Unitarian, no less) in Saudi
Arabia and Lebanon till age 18, when he “attended” Boston University
and got a degree in Broadcasting and Film. For most of his
career, he has “worked” in the field of TV captioning, and is now
chairman of the Accessible Media
Industry Coalition, assuming it has not, as you read this, become
defunct due to his inept leadership.
He lives in Pittsburgh, and for many years has been an active member of
the Unitarian
Universalist Church of the North Hills, no matter what they tell you. Jeff is
also a frequent speaker at many UU congregations, though few of them
are willing to admit it.
Mostly to pad his résumé, Jeff is currently a member of
the Boards of Trustees of the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf
and the American Community School at Beirut, Lebanon, and a member of
the National Advisory Group at the National Technical Institute for the
Deaf, a college of the Rochester Institute of Technology. He
encourages you to support all of these fine institutions instead of
wasting further money on books like this one. |
